چکیده

Two trials were conducted to evaluate one trial, pregnancy first 21 d and total pregnancy in effects of Synovex C@ implants on replacement heifers, 63-d breeding season were decreased ( P = . 0 5 ) by given at two different ages. Crossbred heifer calves ( n implanting at 6 mo. At subsequent calving, an = 370) were allotted to four treatments: 1) noninteraction existed between the effects of the implanted controls, 2) implanted at 2 mo, 3 ) im2and the 6-mo implant for calf birth weight and planted at 6 mo, and 4) implanted at both 2 and 6 mo pelvic area:birth weight ratio. A single implant at of age. Heifers implanted at 2 mo gained 7 kg more ( P either 2 or 6 mo decreased ( P = . O l ) calving difficulty = .01) by 6 mo than those not implanted at 2 mo. No score; and implanting at both 2 and 6 mo showed the differences were found in 22-mo weights. All imgreatest reduction in calving difficulty. Implants had planted heifers had larger ( P = .01) yearling pelvic no significant long-term effects on reproduction or calf area than controls. All heifers implanted at 6 mo production of 2-yr-old cows. Results showed implantcontinued to have larger ( P = .01) pelvic area at 22 ing at 2 mo of age increased early weight gain and mo. All implanted heifers had higher ( P = ,051 decreased calving difficulty scores; implanting at 6 mo occurrence of non-ovulatory estrus. No differences increased precalving pelvic area and decreased calving were found among treatments in percentage of heifers difficulty scores; and implanting at both 2 and 6 mo puberal before breeding, in estrus first 21 d of increased early weight gain, decreased calving diffibreeding, or in first-service conception rate. In only culty scores, but tended to reduce early fertility.

Time of zeranol implantation on growth, reproduction and calving of beef heifers.

Zeranol implants were administered to 250 crossbred heifer calves at 1, 6 or 9 mo of age to evaluate growth, reproduction and calving performance. Heifers were assigned to eight treatment groups with 25 animals per group. Two additional groups of 25 heifers each were used to study the effects of multiple implants at two levels of nutrition on heifer performance. Implants at 1 mo of age (brandin...

Use of recombinant gonadotropin-releasing hormone antigens for immunosterilization of beef heifers.

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of immunization against recombinant GnRH fusion proteins and growth promotants on onset of puberty, feedlot performance, and carcass characteristics of beef heifers. Heifers were immunized against an ovalbumin fusion protein containing 7 GnRH peptides (oGnRH, n = 12), a thioredoxin fusion protein containing 7 GnRH peptides (tGnRH, n = 12...

Optimum Body Size of Holstein Replacement Heifers1

Criteria that define optimum body size of replacement heifers are required by commercial dairy producers to evaluate replacement heifer management programs. Historically recommended body size criteria have been based on live BW measurements. Numerous research studies have observed a positive relationship between BW at first calving and first lactation milk yield, which has served as the impetus...

Effects of zeranol on growth and ease of calf delivery in beef heifers.

At approximately 100 days of gestation, 45 Angus x Hereford and 10 Hereford heifers were assigned either to be implanted with 36 mg zeranol or to serve in a control group. Monthly measurements revealed no effect of treatment on body weight. Increased pelvic area was observed during the first (P<.05), third (P<.05) and fourth months (P<.01) after zeranol treatment. Calf birth and weaning weights...
